I strongly prefer talking to this blob than a human-like avatar. Reminds me of the fart blob thing from Rick and Morty https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgqiSBxvdws
ChatGPT real time voice mode just blows my mind, especially for learning languages.
Congrats to Gukesh, new #chess world champion! https://lichess.org/@/Lichess/blog/wcc-2024-round-14-gukesh-becomes-the-youngest-world-champion-in-history/cDggdNZw
The future of entertainment is probably bright, but the next few years are going to be painful :)

So excited to share that I passed my HSK Level 1 Chinese test. It’s going to get exponentially harder from here but I am feeling really happy about reaching this milestone. :D
This weekend @sourishkrout.com and I submitted a CFP to #KubeCon London. This is my first one, I’m excited about the topic, wish us luck!
Rode my bicycle all the way to the end of the great highway and back today, it was really nice. I got the most satisfying deep breath of ocean air, made the whole trip worth it.
Tinashe was so good tonight, especially her dancers, they brought 100% for almost 90 minutes.
#music
Cant wait to see Raveena and Tinashe at the Warfield tonight!
#music #sanfrancisco
Cafe Suspiro at 9th & Folsom is my favorite Coffee Shop in #sanfrancisco. Such a great vibe, good coffee, vinyl, local books, its my happy place. :)
Listening to Lex Fridman interview Argentinia’s president Javier Milei is shocking because he does not challenge a single thing that he says. Maybe its the translation system, but this is becoming a pattern for me. It’s so odd that the expert level interview skills that he’s developed over the years immediately melt away when he is talking to right wingers.
Someone started working on a #ruby SDK for @dagger.io and it really feels like christmas came early this year. I’ve been dreaming of this one for a while, hope to see it get over the line.

Wouldn’t it be hillarious if Mozilla ended up buying Chrome and wining the browser wars after all?

This is unhinged reporting that somehow turns widespread, people oriented, frequent, and well funded high speed rail into a bad thing. Making it seem like private auto infrastructure has no upfront or ongoing cost.

I wish there was a way to make a starter pack in BlueSky without including yourself.
Counting down the days until I can start to listen to Christmas Lounge on somafm.
I would listen to it all year long, but I have to resist outside of the Thanksgiving - New Year period :D
Lots of imposter accounts starting to crop up around Bluesky, for instance this one impersonating Mark Cuban @mrakcuban.bsky.social, I don’t understand the point but I assume its to amass a following and then try to sell them crypto or something.
Saw an article in WSJ today about fork lift racing in Germany and immediately thought of @[email protected]
Got my first pig putcher DM on Bluesky, this place really is becoming popular! Be careful out there folks :)
Enjoyed listening to Bernie Sanders on Lex Fridman podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzkgWDCucNY
Bluesky feeds are such a cool feature, I need to dig in and play around with that API.
Took my chinese test, HSK level 1 yesterday. Feeling really good about the result! On to level 2 :D
Every since Aosheng showed me the built-in background sounds in iOS, its all I listen to. I am looking forward to my 2024 recap saying “ocean sounds”.
Leaving Salt Lake City after an awesome #kubecon, met so many amazing people and had some great conversations. Feeling really inspired by the entire CNCF community. See ya’ll in London!
If you’re at #kubecon this week, you can keep up with whats going on in the fediverse thanks to https://fosstodon.org/@fedidevs
Being able to just be @levlaz.org on Bluesky is a pretty killer feature of the at protocol.
On my way to #kubecon 2024 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hope to see you there, say hello if you are around!
Added “agentic” to my list of forbidden words. https://levlaz.org/forbidden-words/
Just saw an email that I sent myself a few weeks ago, I don’t normally do this and I have no idea how to handle it. Do I, mark it as spam?
If you’re a #startup, its better to have no blog than have one that does not get updated for months or years at a time. Customers, investors, and fans will assume you’ve died.
I’m sad they closed this particular Gray’s Papaya, but I still go up to the one on 72nd St. whenever I get a chance. #nyc #food
I took amtrak for the first time 10 years ago and it planted a seed caring about #transit in a way that I never have before.
word of the day - sycophant
noun
A person who attempts to gain advantage by flattering influential people or behaving in a servile manner.
Caught myself twice today writing a reply to thinkbois on LinkedIn that I don’t even follow. Stopped and asked myself “wtf am I doing with my life right now” and moved on to something else. Close call, be vigilant out there folks!
Overheard at #wework
“But, I’m gonna go see Lady Gaga tonight, sooooooo party at the end of the world!”
Saw “The Substance” at E Street Theatre in DC last night. It was unecessarily gory with a profound message. I can’t recommend it to anyone, but overall I enjoyed it. :)
#film
Taking the Acela from NYC to DC today, leaves changing color are so damn beautiful. 🍁

“Patriot”, a memoir by Alexei Navalny that was published by his wife after his death comes out today. I’m looking forward to reading it. Does anyone happen to know where I could buy the Russian language edition?
Had BCD Tofu House for dinner last night in Koreatown. That is my happy place for sure. So delicious!
On the hunt for Xi’An Famous Foods for lunch and then going to Tai Er in Flushing for dinner. 🤤

Started watching love is blind, its cheesy but I love it. Feels like a missed opportunity to make the first part a podcast so that all of us can learn what everyone looks like together.
TIL that plan9 is still being developed and they are having an international conference in Paris next year.
Had a nice boost of existential dread this morning by reading “A Time for Compassion” from Rene Coignard where he compares life on this planet to a hospice.
To me, birth seems like the final stage of a terminal illness, inevitably followed by death.
Deep.
Redownloaded signal after listening to the CEO Meredith Whittaker on the Kara Swisher podcast. I don’t remember why I stopped using it, but excited to give it another go.
A few weeks ago my favorite local Coffee Shop (St. Frank on Folsom) remembered my order when I walked in and I was on top of the world becuase its hard to become a “local” in downtown SF.
Today they gave me a free cappucino. Our relationship is escalating and I’m madly in love. 🥰
How to make an Amazon-free Kindle, via Rodrigo Ghedin’s blog. I had no idea this was possible. Very interesting.
I added the little RSS easter egg I found in @[email protected] feed to my own. :) Thanks for the inspiration!
Ok fine, you can have a cliche in your essay. But if I read two cliches in your opening paragraph, I’m closing the tab.
Updated my Bluesky Dagger Module to support links, #hashtags, and mentions using the official Typescript SDK instead of the Python one.
The joy of clutter. A look into the other side of Japanese minimalism.
Tsuzuki dismissed the West’s obsession with Japanese minimalism as ‘some Japanophile’s dream’ in the introduction to the English translation of Tokyo: A Certain Style (1999).

I really love reading other people’s principles, starting with Ray Dalio. This one really stood out to me from Nabeel Qureshi, attributed to John Collison.
“The world is a museum of passion projects.”
Via @brad_[email protected], this is truly amazing. An explosion of nostalgia:
Derek Sivers wrote about this walk and talk that he did for seven days in Thailand over 100km with 8 other people. It sounds amazing, something I’d really like to do some day.
GNOME infrastrucfture is moving to AWS

Happy Birthday to @[email protected] ! In his reflection he mentioned:
It’s hard for an individual to learn, grow and understand the world in a silo.
So true.

Still seeing some weird stuff in my posse module but overall I am happy with progress. Possible I’ll never lose another toot!
I made a lot of progress tonight on my goals for using hugo + Dagger to POSSE my way to success. Using a jenky technique that compares the existing to generated xml feed as a lazy database. If the system works you will see this post somewhere outside of my site.
